Practice Management Billing software is the backbone to the success of your business. do you have experience using many PM systems?

I initially used a different software when I started my company but quickly outgrew it. Over the years, I have used various PM systems, and OpenPM stands out as my favorite.

What problems were you running into with other PM software?

The software I used during my first year lacked the capability to manage all clients under a single login. We had to manually retrieve EDI rejections from the clearinghouse and enter them into the PM system. Additionally, payment posting was cumbersome, and I needed a solution to streamline our processes. Switching to OpenPM saves me 15 hours per week in payment posting alone.

Why were you seeking a software solution?

I had the inability to expand our efficiencies. We were seeking a solution that could support anesthesia. Not every RCM platform or billing software can perform what is necessary to do anesthesia billing, so we needed a system that we knew could follow everything that we needed. We needed a system that could work with all of the variables. I wanted a partner who was willing to listen.

Was there a specific function you were looking for in new software?

I was looking for a user-friendly, web-based system with a scheduler, eligibility checking, integrated EDI rejections, and a worklist for Account Specialists. Having the ability to allow patients to have more than one insurance or billing type. We handled many urgent care centers and some patients had worker’s compensation cases and we needed to submit other visits to their insurance company. OpenPM allows us to use different Insurance Profiles.

How did you find Open Practice?

While billing for an urgent care client, there were struggles connecting with their PM. Etactics clearinghouse suggested OpenPM since it is built together . OpenPM worked better with Etactics than other PM.

Do you work with OpenPM software exclusively? How did you get to that point?

Yes, we use OpenPM exclusively. After trying other practice management systems and finding them inadequate, I committed to OpenPM. Their support surpasses anything I've experienced, and their system meets all our needs. Although I've lost potential clients due to this choice, I believe using a single PM system enhances efficiency and effectiveness. It allows my team to excel without the confusion of juggling multiple systems. Using multiple Practice Management systems at best you will be Mediocre

Would you say you’ve seen an ROI from Open Practice? If so, how? Please provide some examples.

Absolutely! OpenPM is user-friendly, saving time and money. Key features like the job scheduler for batching claims, ERA application, eligibility checks, and statement batching streamline our workflow. Etactics clearinghouse is built-in so having claims status on the dashboard is also a significant benefit. The worklist feature is a favorite, enabling us to create task lists with follow-up and due date options, ensuring urgent matters are promptly addressed. Alerts and headers keep everyone informed about critical information. I can look at the Interactive Aging and immediately see if we have a problem at a specific insurance company. The options for reports are endless. 

Knowing what you know now, do you wish you started with us sooner? If so, why?

Yes, starting with OpenPM from the beginning would have saved me considerable time. However, experiencing other systems first helped me appreciate OpenPM's features more.

What would you tell someone who is evaluating OpenPM now?

I would tell them that OpenPM is an excellent choice. The support from OpenPM and Etactics is outstanding. Although we've encountered occasional glitches, the support team has always been there to help us through challenging times and improve our workflows.

Would you recommend OpenPM?

Absolutely!

Do you have any final thoughts or anything else to share?

I tell everyone who tries to sell me another PM system. “I would rather shave my head with a cheese grater than switch Practice Management systems. I love Open PM, Etactics and some of their team members I feel like we have become friends over the years.
